The Region 5-2A all-region baseball teams were chock-full of Callaway Cavaliers. Eight Callaway players made the teams as the Cavaliers were represented at just about every position on the diamond.

Leading the way, unsurprisingly, was Bryce Hubbard, who was named co-player of the year. The University of North Georgia-bound athlete led the Cavaliers in batting average (.413), hits (31), RBIs (31) and stolen bases (10) while only taking three strikeouts all season. Hubbard also led the pitching staff with a team-low ERA Of 1.25 while leading the team in strikeouts (78) while going 6-2 during his senior campaign.

The Cavaliers had four players — Brantin Swanson, Julian Dukes, Lashun Gates and Wesley Williams —- named to the All-Region first team. 

Despite splitting time on the mound and at first base, Swanson earned his spot on the team for his pitching performances this season. Swanson went 4-3 with an ERA of just 2.64. Swanson was also a more than-capable hitter for the Cavaliers and was second on the team in RBIs (21) as a senior.

Dukes came into the season as a utility player but was called upon to start every game down the stretch at catcher. Dukes slotted in and performed at a high level to earn first-team all-region honors. Dukes hit .304 with 19 RBs during his senior season with the Cavaliers.

Gates enjoyed a breakout season for the Cavaliers as a middle infielder. He was a key piece last year, but truly solidified himself as a force in the lineup for Callaway this season. The rising senior hit .303 and led the team with 32 runs scored. 

The Cavaliers were also represented on the first team in the outfield with rising junior Wesley Williams earning the nod. Williams hit .282 with 11 RBIs during his sophomore campaign. Williams will be expected to only get better from here and he is already an All-Region caliber player.

Callaway also had three players — Blake Harrington, Slade Hunt and Luke Taylor make the second team.

Harrington enjoyed a breakout campaign on the mound for the Cavaliers, cementing himself as the no. 1 pitcher going forward with the two pitchers ahead of him on the depth chart (Hubbard and Swanson) graduating last month. The rising junior was 3-1 with a 3.09 ERA and was second on the team in strikeouts with 54. Harrington is also a weapon from the plate as he hit .276 with nine RBIs as a sophomore.

Rising junior Slade Hunt got some quality playing time as a freshman and turned that experience into a breakout season as a sophomore. Hunt hit .282 with 12 RBIs and will be a key part of Callaway’s infield for the next two seasons as well.

It was a heartbreaking season for Taylor. The rising junior suffered a devastating leg injury that kept him out for the back half of the season. During the first half of his sophomore season, Taylor was making a big impact. Through 15 games, he hit .333 with 11 RBIs and 21 runs scored to earn a spot on the second team. He is expected to make a full recovery in time for his junior season next spring.
