Bartley Road shooting still under investigation

Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies are still investigating a shooting incident that left two adolescents in critical condition.

An undisclosed 15-year-old male and a 10-year-old female were shot on Bartley Road Tuesday night.

Sheriff’s Investigators were notified of the incident around 10:41 p.m. on the night of June 4 when deputies were called to a home in the 1600 block of Bartley Road upon reports of two juveniles that had been shot.

Authorities arrived to find a 15-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to transported to area hospitals. As of last report, the male is in critical condition but the female is stable. She is expected to have significant life-altering injuries from the incident.

According to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation revealed that the male juvenile shot his sister with a handgun before later turning the gun on himself.

Sheriff’s investigators are leaning to believe the cause of the shooting was accidental but are waiting until they can speak with the female victim and other family members.
