Boyd Winston Walls, 83, of Stoughton left this world as peacefully as he lived his life. During his final days, Boyd was surrounded by his family and friends as he graciously said “good bye” and reminisced joyous memories before reuniting with the love of his life, the late Martha ‘Micki’ Walls, in heaven.
Boyd was born and raised in LaGrange, Georgia. He attended local schools and played midget football and baseball, and in his teens he was elected President of the Teenager Club. After high school he played football for and attended West Georgia College in Rome for 3 years.
Boyd enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1962 at the age of 22. In 1965 he arrived in Vietnam at the very beginning of the conflict and was assigned as a Squad Leader to Company “H”, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. He served in Vietnam for over one year and was honorably discharged in 1967.
While living in Illinois, Boyd met the girl of his dreams Micki (Snyder). They fell in love while Micki worked as a coffee shop waitress and where Boyd visited each day for his “6-hour cup of coffee.” They got married and then moved to Massachusetts so Micki would be close to her family. After 52 wonderful, loving years of marriage, Micki passed away on June 18, 2021 from a Covid infection.
Boyd worked at Sears for 49 years in the Sales Department. He was awarded the #1 Sales Person in Massachusetts several times, and many customers requested him specifically before purchasing large appliances. His knowledge, loyalty, and integrity were second to none.
He was an active member of the Rising Star Masonic Lodge in Stoughton for almost 50 years. Boyd took great satisfaction in helping others and giving back to his community, and he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Warren Medal for living and leading by example.
Together Boyd and his late wife, Micki, made a significant impact on their church family. A member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Stoughton for decades, Boyd served on the Vestry, on the Search Committee, on the Building and Grounds Committee, as Usher, and as Counter. His diligence and faith were impeccable. Boyd’s strong sense of community was also extended after being elected Town Representative for a 3 year term, serving on the 275th Celebration Committee, and working with the Council on Aging in Stoughton.
Boyd will be forever remembered as a man of great kindness, as a most loyal and loving friend, as a passionate fan of all sports (local, state, and national), as a lover of cats and dogs, and for his outstanding sense of humor. He loved family gatherings, especially around the holidays, and eagerly playing keno with his best buddy Gordon.
Boyd was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Micki. He is survived by his younger brother Tony Walls of LaGrange; his sister-in-law Audrey Wilson of Sharon, MA; his sister- and brother-in-law Connie and Denis Netto of Scarborough, ME; his very close friend Gordon Bacquelod and his daughter Renee of Stoughton, MA; many nieces and nephews; and his entire church family.
To honor Boyd’s memory, please consider making a donation to the Trinity Episcopal Church Building and Grounds Fund (414 Sumner St, Stoughton, MA 02072), helping others in need, and making someone smile.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 11 am in Stoughton, MA.
