Extra-inning walk-off.

Senior and first year LaGrange baseball player Cole Garner delivered when it mattered most to give the Grangers a 3-2 win over Columbus on Saturday. He reached on an error to drive home Tanner Langley for the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

It was a true war to get to that point. LaGrange was able to capture an early lead when a balk by the Blue Devils pitcher allowed Robbie Parker to score and give the Grangers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

The Grangers were able to extend the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a mammoth home run shot from Cooper Stephens that flew over the center field wall.

Columbus was able to strike back and tie the game at two all in the top do the sixth,, and it stayed tied until Garner delivered in extra-innings.

It was a true pitcher’s duel with Trey Cook getting the start for the Grangers. He went six innings, allowing just six hits and one earned run on five strikeouts. Cook also delivered from the plate, having one of only two multi-hit game for the Grangers by going 2-for-2. The other was Langley, who finished 2-for-4 on the day and gave the Grangers a weapon at the top of their order.

Grayson Cockrell, Seth Stargell and Stephens all had a hit apiece in the game.

LaGrange is now 5-1 overall and have rattled off five wins in a row. The Grangers will be back on the diamond next Thursday when they host Winter Park.
