LAGRANGE – The Troup Tigers will take a break from their pursuit of a region championship with a road game against Harris County today.

The Tigers, who are in second place in Region 5-AAAA with a 6-2 record, will play their first game in more than a week.

Troup’s most recent game came on March 31 when it got a big 2-1 region road win over Cedartown.

That victory moved the Tigers into second place in the region, and they’re just one-half game behind LaGrange (6-1), and those two teams will play on Tuesday.

The Tigers have been rolling of late.

The Tigers found themselves at 2-2 in the region after a home loss to Central-Carroll, but they haven’t lost since.

Troup began its winning streak with a 1-0 win at Cartersville, with sophomore Colby Williams pitching the seven-inning shutout.

After beating Sandy Creek 3-1 and Chapel Hill 7-1, Troup rallied late to beat Cedartown 2-1.

Troup trailed 1-0 before scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, and Cedartown was unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.

Williams, who has been the winning pitcher in each of his three region starts while not allowing more than a run in any of those games, went the distance against Cedartown.

Troup, which won the program’s first region title in two decades last year, is in great position heading into the home stretch.

Troup has four region games remaining, beginning with Tuesday’s home showdown against LaGrange.

Earlier, with Williams on the mound, Troup beat LaGrange 3-1.

Troup will visit Central-Carroll on April 14, and it host Cartersville on April 18 before completing region play on April 20 at Sandy Creek.
