HOGANSVILLE — Hogansville City Manager James Woods was let go from his position during Thursday night’s city council work session.

Woods had served in that position since 2011. The city manager runs the day to day operations of the city, with department heads reporting directly to him.

“He’s a good man but over a period of time lost confidence from the council, and the council wanted to move in a different direction,” said Hogansville Mayor Bill Stankiewicz.

Woods made a Facebook post following the decision, discussing some of the improvements in Hogansville during his five and a half years.  The post received dozens of comments with many offering support and best wishes.

He said that post and all of the people commenting summed up his time in Hogansville.

“I do appreciate the five and a half years time I’ve spent here,” Woods said. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve, and we accomplished a lot in Hogansville in those five and a half years.”

Woods said he built a relationship that allowed people to feel comfortable coming to talk to him.

“I built a relationship that created an open-door format to allow people to come in and approach their government and talk to it and get responses,” Woods said.

Woods said he’s proud of a lot during the last handful of years. He said the city is clean, numerous roads have been paved, sidewalks have been refurbished and that more than 20 projects are pending.

“I could go on and on about all the things that have been accomplished, and they have been accomplished as a team,” Woods said.

“As this door closes, I’ll look and see where my other opportunities come from.”
