COLUMBUS — The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting LaGrange and surrounding area residents including Troup, Meriwether, Heard and Pike counties to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Vernon Woods Retirement Community in LaGrange.

Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants will complete a two mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

“The cure for Alzheimer’s is within reach,” said Margaret Morton, 2017 Walk Chair.

“It is up to all of us for those that have died, those that are living with Alzheimer’s now and for future victims and their families. Please join us in LaGrange Sept. 16 to make it happen,” said Morton.

In addition to the two-mile walk participants will hear from Chief of Police, Lou Dekmar as well as enjoy a live band and face painting.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Georgia alone, there are more than 140,000 people living with the disease and 519,000 caregivers.   Register today.
