The Troup County School System has rolled out an After School Meal Program to all three high schools; Callaway, LaGrange and Troup, according to a press release from the school system. The purpose of the program is to ensure that students who participate in after-school activities receive a healthy meal before returning home.

“Many of our student athletes may not make it home until late in the evening,” saod Diane Pain, Troup County School System Director of School Nutrition. “When we researched the program and saw other local districts successfully operating this program, we knew we could implement it in Troup County.”

The After School Meal Program was initially piloted at Troup High School and the Callaway High School. The number of students who have been served since 2015 is well over 28,000, according to the press release. There is no cost for a student to receive a meal. The program does require that participants are under 18 at the start of the school year, and they must be located on the school campus and/or participating in an on campus activity.

“We are glad to offer another opportunity for our students to have a nutritious meal during the day,” Pain said.

“We look forward to contributing to the success of our students through this program for the years to come.”
