It might feel like it’s still a long-ways away, but Troup County was reminded several times this week that’s there less than a month until the general election.

We’re sure some of you probably ignore the campaign signs on Lafayette Parkway and other thoroughfares around town — as well as the ongoing television ads on local stations — but it’s time to start paying attention again.

The candidates are certainly doing their part to stump for votes.

Just in the last four days, numerous local and statewide candidates have made a stop in LaGrange. On Saturday, numerous Democratic candidates — including local representative Bob Trammel and U.S. House candidate Chuck Enderlin — had a meet and greet at Calumet Park.

On Tuesday, Randy Robertson and Valerie Haskins, candidates for Georgia Senate District 29, had a debate at LaGrange College. On Wednesday, Lt. Gov. candidate Sarah Riggs-Amico spoke at LaGrange College.

Although the majority of these candidates are Democrats, we’ve also had many Republicans make a stop in LaGrange this year too. Gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp spoke at Rotary Club in the early parts of 2018 and Casey Cagle visited Troup County three times before falling in a run-off, so we’ve seen our share of campaigning from both parties.

Our guess is that we’ll have a few other candidates make a stop in Troup County in the next few weeks as well. We certainly hope that’s the case.

Regardless of your political affiliation, we hope you’ve had a chance to attend the recent local campaign events. We appreciate LaGrange College, and specifically Dr. John Tures, for organizing the two events this week.

Before we know it, it’ll be November, and we’ll be at the polls.

Now is the time to get to know candidates and to hear how they feel about different issues.
