Early voting began in Troup County on Monday, and 608 residents have already cast their votes. Early voting is taking place at the Troup County Government Center at 100 Ridley Avenue for 21 days prior to the general election between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

It’s important to vote and it’s a civic duty. While some people may be busy on Nov. 6, the day of the election, there’s always time to vote before hand.

For those who say they’re too busy to vote during the week due to work or school or any other duties, early voting is also taking place at the government center on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

While this is not a presidential election, this year’s race matters. We are determining a new governor for the state in addition to a lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and members of the state legislature. Who we elect can change policies and regulations in the state. Additionally, there’s the state race for U.S. Congress’ District 3. There are also state constitutional amendments on the ballots this year too, meaning that we the people get a say in the law. All political positions hold some power that can make small and big changes to the state.
