It’s been all hands on deck for the Troup Tigers.

With the addition of the football players following the conclusion of their season, the Troup boys’ basketball team boasts a deep pool of talent, and head coach Blake Craft has been taking advantage of that.

In Saturday’s 64-51 win over Valley, nearly every player on the varsity roster got some playing time.

The Tigers improved to 4-1, and they’re 3-0 since the arrival of the football players.

“We played 12 out of 14 (against Valley),” Craft said. “We’re playing fast. The guys are buying in. You’ll play a few minutes, and then you’re coming out and somebody else is going in. The kids are having fun.”

One of the men who has been there since the start of the season, senior JaQuavo McFarland, led the Tigers with 19 points, and Kobe Hudson added 13 points.

Gabe Cofield added seven points, and Brandon Smith and Andy Boykin had six points apiece.

“We’ve only had about a week of practice with everyone,” Craft said. “When we get everything together, it’s going to be nice. It’ll be really fun. The kids see it. They’re coming in hungry.”

Also on Saturday, the Troup Lady Tigers got their first win of the season after three close losses.

Troup surged to a 13-3 lead after the first quarter, and it eased to a 46-14 victory.

Freshman Aniya Palmer led Troup with 18 points, while junior post player Amber Gilbert scored 15 points.

Troup will host Valley today, with the girls’ game tipping at 6 p.m., and the boys’ game to follow.
