The Troup Lady Tigers built a 27-point halftime on the way to a 49-37 home win over Valley on Tuesday night.

Leading 32-5 at the break, Troup had its struggles in the second half, although the outcome was never in doubt.

It was, head coach Carla Thornton said, a learning experience for the players.

“I’m trying to get the young girls to learn that you can’t go by the scoreboard,” Thornton said. “There’s stuff that we have to work on. We have to execute. I feel like we didn’t execute in the second half at all. They got confidence, and had lapses on defense, and stopped running stuff on offense.”

Still, it was Troup’s second consecutive win, both over Valley, after opening the season with close losses to three outstanding teams.

“We lost to some good teams,” Thornton said. “The teams we lost to our a combined 13-1. I told (the players), y’all are right there playing with those teams. You have to have confidence.”

Junior Amber Gilbert led Troup with 20 points, and she made three 3-pointers in the first quarter as Troup charged out to a 20-3 lead. Jada Green added 10 points, and Moniya Murphy added seven points.

Troup will try to even its record at 3-3 with a home win over Callaway on Saturday.
