A validated and vetted gang member was arrested on multiple charges Friday night by the LaGrange Police Department, according to Sgt. Mark Cavender.

Demarrious Freeman was charged with two counts of the sale of cocaine and six counts of participation in a criminal street gang. Freeman was also charged with two counts of failure to stop for stop signs, obstruction and probation violation.

“No specifics are available at this time,” Cavender said. “To determine if someone is involved in a criminal gang, there are multiple processes.”

Cavender said it is not illegal to be involved in a gang, but when members start to commit crimes to further their status in the gang or further the status of the gang, then a charge can come about.

“There are no specifics at this time at which gang participation he is involved in, but his gang affiliation exists,” Cavender said.

According to the Troup County jail arrest/release reports Freeman is currently in pretrial.
