Holly Lynn hit two home runs to lead LaGrange to a wild 9-7 road win over Chapel Hill on Thursday.

It was a critical win for LaGrange (19-8), which finished second in Region 5-AAAA with a 9-3 record.

LaGrange will play Central-Carroll in a best-of-three series to determine the region championship.

Regardless of the outcome of that series, LaGrange will be at home for the opening round of the state playoffs.

In Thursday’s game, Lynn hit a pair of two-run home runs, including one that gave LaGrange a 9-7 lead in the top of the ninth inning.

Lynn also hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning that put LaGrange on top 7-4 before Chapel Hill answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it.

Camden Smith, LaGrange’s junior pitcher, worked hard to get the win.

Smith pitched a nine-inning complete game, and she held Chapel Hill scoreless after it pushed the three runs across in the seventh inning.

LaGrange had a big day at the plate with 15 hits, and eight different players had at least one hit.

While Lynn had the two bombs, Abby Vanhoose contributed three hits and an RBI.

Jacee Marable had two hits and three RBIs, Smith had two hits with an RBI, and Malone Aldridge and Macee Stone each had two hits.

Madison Dennis and Kirsten Williams had one hit apiece.

Trailing 3-1, LaGrange took the lead with four runs in the top of the third inning.

Leading 5-4, LaGrange got two key insurance runs in the seventh inning on Lynn’s home run, but Chapel Hill fought back to tie it.

After a scoreless eighth inning, LaGrange reclaimed the lead in the top of the ninth.

Vanhoose led off the ninth with a base hit, and two batters later, Lynn launched the ball over the center-field fence for the go-ahead home run.

Smith worked around an error in the bottom of the ninth to finish things off.

LaGrange closes the regular season with a game at Columbus on Tuesday.
