The Lafayette Christian School Cougars will play for a state championship on Friday.

After dispatching Georgia Christian 16-6 last week in the semifinals of the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association 11-man state playoffs, Lafayette Christian will host Griffin Christian in the title game on Friday, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

If the Cougars win, it will be the second state title in the history of the program.

In 2015, Lafayette Christian beat Central Christian 41-30 to win the eight-man state title.

A year ago, Lafayette Christian made the transition to 11-man football, and it reached the state-championship game before losing to Life Christian Academy.

This season has been a stellar one for the Cougars (7-2), who won a region title to earn home-field advantage in the state playoffs.

Lafayette Christian had its hands full with Georgia Christian last week, hanging on for the win in a game dominated by the defenses.

Senior quarterback Nathan Fain had a touchdown run, and he also made a 40-yard field goal.

The Cougars’ other points came on a punt return for a touchdown by Nathan Karvelas.

Griffin Christian also had a challenging game in the semifinals, and it beat Hancock Academy 21-14 to earn a title shot.
