Wonderthon coming to LSPA Sunday

The Lafayette Theatre Academy is putting a new spin on the holiday tradition of watching back-to-back romances, on networks like the Hallmark Channel.  Instead of playing on a screen, “The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon,” a new play by Don Zolidis, mashes up five common storylines on stage in a parody of romantic comedies.

The stories are set in Hopewood Falls, Vermont, where singles in adorable sweaters converge to look for love. From royalty and movie stars in disguise to evil city slickers planning to destroy charming inns and Christmas tree farms, this play is filled with all of the clichés and hot cocoa that you would expect to see in a place that is powered by Christmas Spirit.

“This holiday production was selected by the students of our one-act class because of its humor and the anticipated fun of staging the production.  It has not disappointed.  The creativity of the cast and crew has added much to the entertainment that awaits our audiences,” shares director Amy McDow.  “With our picnic theatre setting, pre-show carols, photo opportunities, and a laughter-inducing show, I believe this will be a favorite holiday experience for many of our guests.”

Performances are on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.; and Monday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.  The venue is the Lafayette Theatre Company Black Box in the LSPA facilities, located at 214 Bull Street in downtown LaGrange, and reserved seats are available for $10 per ticket.

Seating is picnic style, meaning that guests may bring food and drinks of their choice to enjoy before and during the show.  The house will open 30 minutes in advance of showtime for this production.

Tickets can be purchased online at LSPARTS.org or by calling (706) 882-9909 during office hours.
