The LaGrange Lady Grangers have been in a position to win all three of their region games so far, but they’re still looking for a breakthrough victory.

After dropping close game to Central-Carroll and Cedartown to begin their Region 5-AAAA schedule, LaGrange fell to visiting Cartersville 46-42 on Tuesday night.

LaGrange had a five-point lead at the close of the third quarter, but Cartersville rallied for the win.

While disappointed to see his team fall to 0-3 in the region, LaGrange head coach Stephen Tuck made sure to let the players know he was pleased with the effort.

“That’s the message. Today, you did all the right things,” Tuck said, referring to his post-game remarks to the players. “Against Cedartown I was disappointed at some of the things that we did. Today, you did all the right things. You play that way you’re going to be just fine.”

Senior Chaquave’ayr Robinson led LaGrange with 11 points, and Kylah Campbell, a sophomore guard, added 10 points.

Freshman Corriah Williams made two 3-pointers and scored nine points, and Madison Coverson had seven points.

Williams made both of her 3-pointers in the first quarter as LaGrange built a 19-8 lead, and the home team was ahead 25-20 at the half.

LaGrange led by as many as seven points in the third quarter, and it was ahead 31-26 heading to the final quarter.

A 10-0 run that began in the final stages of the third quarter gave Cartersville a 34-31 lead with 6:08 to play.

Cartersville held the lead the rest of the way, although LaGrange kept it close.

Robinson made two free throws with 2:32 left to give the Lady Grangers within one, but they were unable to tie it or take the lead.

LaGrange visits Troup on Friday.
