It was a winning home debut for LaGrange High’s volleyball team.

After playing six consecutive road matches to start the season, LaGrange (2-5) welcomed Heard County into its gym on Thursday evening.

After easing to a 25-8 victory in the first set, LaGrange held off Heard County 25-18 in a competitive second set.

In the opening set, LaGrange took control with a 9-0 run

to build a comfortable 13-3 lead.

Danasha Lewis had a kill to get the run started, and Addie Eiland had four service winners, including three in a row.

Lewis later had back-to-back service winners to extend the lead to 16-4, and a kill by Carmen Lynch put LaGrange up by 13 points.

Lauren Park, who had a kill to push the lead to 21-7, had a service winner to finish off the dominant first-set performance.

The second set started out much the way the first one ended, with LaGrange taking an 8-2 lead.

Lewis had a block, and Eiland and Jenna Gynther both had kills to help LaGrange take the lead in the second set.

After Heard County got within four, back-to-back kills by Lewis and Kensley Swift gave LaGrange a 10-4 lead.

LaGrange remained in control and had a 17-10 lead when Heard County made a charge to get back into it, scoring four of the next five points to get within four.

That’s as close as Heard County came, though.

After the Lady Grangers went back up by six points, an Eiland kill on a nice set-up by Park extended the lead to 21-14, and Lewis had a kill to make it an eight-point lead.

LaGrange maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way, and a service winner by Eiland ended the match.

LaGrange will be back on the road on Tuesday to face Haralson County.
