NEWNAN – LaGrange High’s softball team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 game to Newnan on Wednesday in a non-region game.

LaGrange got a solo home run from Madison Dennis to tie the game in the top of the fourth, and Newnan reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the inning.

LaGrange was unable to answer, and Newnan held on for the 2-1 victory.

LaGrange (14-7), which saw its five-game winning streak come to a close, will try to get back into the win column on Thursday when it hosts Hardaway in a Region 2-AAAA game.

Camden Smith was the tough-luck loser for LaGrange.

Smith, LaGrange’s outstanding senior pitcher, threw the six-inning complete game, and she gave up five hits and two runs while striking out six.

Maddie Veal, Newnan’s freshman pitcher, worked seven innings and allowed one run on six hits while striking out eight.

After Newnan scored a run in the bottom of the third to take the lead, Dennis led off with a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie it.

Newnan came right back with a single run in the bottom of the fourth to take a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

While Dennis had a home run and Malone Aldridge had a double, Kirsten Williams, Holly Lynn, Jacee Marable and Mariana Ceja each had one hit.
