It was a big day for LaGrange High’s Madison Dennis, and getting a chance to share it with her teammates made it that much better.

Dennis, a senior, was a four-year starter on the LaGrange High softball team, and last week during a ceremony at the school, she signed a letter of intent to join the softball program at Georgia Highlands College in Cartersville.

On the same day, LaGrange teammates Camden Smith (West Georgia) and Abby Vanhoose (LaGrange College) also signed with their schools.

The other seniors, Malone Aldridge, Jacee Marable and Kirsten Williams, were also there to be a part of the celebration.

“It means a lot, especially being able to sign on the same day, knowing you worked hard together, and you get to celebrate together,” Dennis said.

Georgia Highlands College, a two-year school, is getting a reliable player who has excelled at the plate, and in the field over the past four seasons.

Dennis started every game for four seasons at second base, and she helped the team win a region championship and advance to the state semifinals as a senior.

While there was never another player seriously pushing Dennis for a starting spot, she took nothing for granted.

“The thing is, you still have that motivation that you want to grind and get better,” Dennis said. “You’re not fighting for a position, but you’re grinding to make yourself and your team better.”

Dennis joined the LaGrange program as an eighth-grader, and she made the jump to varsity softball as a freshman, and she started every game for four seasons.

“She’s been a crucial piece of our program for five years,” said LaGrange head coach Gabby Heath. “There aren’t any that work harder, or put more time into their skills the way that Madison does. Over the past four years, she’s only gotten better. It’s a humbling experience to watch the way she works.”
