In a game where points were hard to come by, it was the Harris County Tigers hanging on for a 50-41 road win over the Callaway Cavaliers on Saturday night.

The Tigers were clinging to a 43-39 lead with more than three minutes to play, but the Cavaliers were limited to just two points the rest of the way, and they went scoreless over the final two minutes.

The good news for the Cavaliers is that it was a non-region game, so they remained 2-0 in Region 5-AA.

Callaway (2-6 overall) will try to stay perfect in the region when it visits the Heard County Braves on Tuesday.

It will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the two rivals.

Heard County (6-8) is 1-0 in the region after beating Bremen last week.

In Saturday’s game, despite being held to 31 points through three quarters, the Cavaliers were within three points as the final quarter began.

After falling behind by eight points, the Cavaliers got within four with 3:15 remaining in the game on back-to-back baskets by Demetrius Coleman.

The Cavaliers’ only other points the rest of the way, though, came on a basket by Exavious Reed with 2:09 to play.

Coleman led the Cavaliers with 11 points, Jalin Shephard scored eight points, Javontay Boddie contributed seven points, and Reed and Kaleb Salter chipped in with five points apiece.
