It took longer than they hoped it would, but the Troup Tigers are on the board in region play.

After dropping its first three Region 2-AAAA games, Troup’s boys’ basketball team overwhelmed Kendrick 72-38 on Tuesday to improve to 1-3 in the region.

Troup was coming off a 58-51 road loss to Columbus High a few days earlier after opening region play with losses to Hardaway and Spencer.

Senior KJ Tucker led the Tigers with 17 points, and freshman Jaylen Young added 15 points.

“We talked about, forget who we were playing, just play our game,” said Troup head coach Blake Craft. “We played great defense. We played well. We played so bad on Friday night, and so well tonight.”

Troup will try to make it two region wins in a row when it hosts Shaw on Friday.

“We just need to keep playing well, keep practicing well,” Craft said.

The Troup Lady Tigers, meanwhile, will look to keep things rolling after winning their first four region games. Troup improved to 4-0 in the region with an 82-43 victory over Kendrick.

Also on Friday, Callaway’s teams will begin the second half of their Region 5-AA schedules when they visit Temple.

In private-school basketball, LaGrange Academy will host Windsor Academy on Friday.

LaGrange High’s teams are off on Friday, and the Grangers will host Camp Jewell Academy on Saturday at 2 p.m.
