They’re hoping for a repeat performance.

Earlier this season, the Lafayette Christian School Lady Cougars came away with a hard-earned road win over Flint River Academy.

Those teams will square off once again on Friday at Flint River, and the stakes will be considerably higher this time around.

After winning games earlier in the week, Lafayette Christian and Flint River will play for a region championship on Friday at 7 p.m.

“We were fortunate to win over there at their place by four,” said Lafayette Christian head coach Rene Gomez. “They play tough in that gym. They kept the lead for most of the game, we just turned it around there in the fourth quarter. We know we’ve got our work cut out for us. They’re quick, and they’re well-coached, they play really well.”

Win or lose, Lafayette Christian will host a game Tuesday in the first round of the Georgia Association of Private & Parochial Schools state tournament.

The Lady Cougars would obviously prefer to head to state as region champs, and they’ll have a good chance to make that a reality if post player Carmen Bridges continues her stellar play.

While Bridges has been a big-time rebounder all season, she has found her form as a scorer of late, scoring 16, 20, and 21 points in the past three games.

“She has tore it up on the boards all year. She’s averaging 18 rebounds a game,” Gomez said. “Offensively, though, she’s hit or miss, but in the last couple of games she’s really come into her own, and hopefully we’ll get a big game from her.”
