It has been an incredible journey for the LaGrange High baseball team.

A couple of times, the Grangers have been faced with elimination, only to come through in a winner-take-all game three of a postseason series. It’s been a really fun climb to watch, as LaGrange tries to earn another baseball state title — the school’s first since 2004.

That journey will end one way or another this weekend when LHS takes on North Oconee for the AAAA state championship. Two games will be played Friday with a decisive game three set for Monday, if necessary.

This community rallies around teams, families and people like no other. We see that in our sports coverage, but we also see that in news coverage. When tragedy strikes, people are there for each other. It’s one of the reasons this community is so awesome.

On Friday, we encourage everyone — whether they are heading to Rome or not Friday evening — to wear Granger blue. If you’re able, we encourage you to get on the bus and cheer on the Grangers in person. This will be their first time traveling during the playoffs, and we’re sure the players would love for it to look and feel as much like a home game as possible.

Win or lose, it’s been an incredible season for LHS on the diamond (and just about every other sport too.) Speaking of that, what an incredible year athletic-wise in Troup County overall. It feels like every time we turn around another team has made a deep run into the postseason. We wish the Grangers all the luck in the world as they vie for the title on Friday, but win or lose, we know everyone is proud of what they’ve accomplished this year.
