Spectator at County drag strip dies from injuries

Public Safety Reports

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office continues their investigation into the death of a Bowden man at the Troup County Drag Strip.

The victim, identified as Rickey Boyd, 57, was run over by a trailer hitched to the back of a truck around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, stated TCSO Sgt. Stewart Smith.

Boyd was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where he later died from his injuries, officials said.

It was not known as of press time on Monday if anyone will be charged in the accident.

Store clerk keeps winning lottery ticket

An employee at the Marathon convenience store at 4584 Hamilton Road is facing felony charges for stealing a “winning” lottery ticket.

The clerk, identified as Mahipai Korandla, 58, was arrested Friday by investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the Georgia Lottery Corporation.

Korandla was reportedly given the “winning” ticket by a customer in the store, stated TCSO officials.

The employee scanned the ticket and allegedly told the person they did not win anything.

In reality, the lottery ticket was worth thousands of dollars – and the “customer” was really an undercover agent with the Lottery Commission, investigators said.

Korandla was taken into custody.

He allegedly admitted planned on keeping the “winning” ticket, cashing it out and keeping the proceeds, according to TCSO investigators.

Korandla was charged with one count of violating the Georgia Lottery for Education Act, which is a felony.

AC units stolen from business

The property manager of Village Green Recycling located at 210 Lukken Industrial Drive East reported someone stole two air conditioning units from the building.

One of the units was new; the other one was old and did not work, the manager told LaGrange police officers.

The manager also stated the suspect(s) took one full AC unit and only “parts” from the second one, the report stated.

The total value of both units was estimated at $3,000.

Police are investigating.
