On Christmas Eve, investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were notified regarding two possible aggravated assaults, officials said Tuesday. Shortly before 5 p.m., Mitchell Hinson and Jeffery Crenshaw had driven together to a local store and at the location, got into a verbal disagreement which escalated to Hinson striking Crenshaw in the head with a large metal object.

Crenshaw sustained a “gaping laceration” in the incident, deputies said. With Crenshaw injured, the two men left the store and drove back to a residence on Martin Drive. Once at the residence, Crenshaw retrieved a .12-gauge shotgun and shot Hinson from a distance, causing non-fatal wounds.

Crenshaw has been charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Hinson has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. Both defendants are in the Troup County Jail awaiting bond hearings.
