Tunes for Tots concert is Saturday

HOGANSVILLE – Good food, good music and a good cause await locals at Hunter’s Bar and Grill on Saturday with the 6th annual Tunes for Tots concert.

The annual concert helps to gather donations for the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program, and all donations to the program go to benefit children in Troup County.

“I have kids, and I grew up with my father being really big into Christmas,” said Josh East who is organizing the concert this year. “… This is the only way for me to really get into (the Christmas spirit).”

East said that he could not imagine not being able to have a big Christmas with his family, and that he hopes that the fun event will allow local children in Troup County to have a great Christmas. This year’s musical lineup is set to feature Daniel Toole, Blood KinFolk, Lights Out, Hollow Sky and Dirt Road Republic. The bands offer a variety of styles catering to different musical tastes that are sure to keep the night lively.

“What better way to use your talents then to get into a good cause?” East asked.

With only one weekend left before the local Marine Corps Reserve switches from accepting donations to distribution, it is really crunch time and events like Tunes for Tots in Hogansville and Rock for Tots in West Point are crucial to making sure that local children have a merry Christmas.

“We try to do it first, second Saturday in December, so that we can get the toys to distribute them to the distributers early, and we came away with eight bags of toys – usually about 20 toys to a bag – (from Rock for Tots),” said Bernard Bledsoe, a coordinator for Toys for Tots. “… All we can say is we really appreciate (Josh), the facilities, the bands and the public that support it.”

Tunes for Tots is scheduled to take place at Hunter’s Bar and Grill, 1875 Main Street from 7:30 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Admission is a new unwrapped, unopened toy or $10.
