Troup County 4-H held its annual awards program May 17.

Staff and Faculty from the University of Georgia Extension office recognized more than 40 students from Troup County for their participation in various educational judging competitions, project achievement and shooting sports.

The evening featured a light dinner followed by musical numbers, a slide show and the presentation of awards. Also recognized were three 2015 high school graduates.

On May 29, fifth and sixth grade students from Troup County attended Fun Day at Fortson 4-H Center in Hampton. The day’s activities started with a survival hike where the students learned how to survive in the wilderness.

They had the opportunity to practice building emergency shelters, discussed what items should be in a survival kit and basics of fire building and safety. The students then performed services for other students at the center by completing KP duty during lunch.

The afternoon was off to the lake for canoeing and water games, followed by free time in the pool. The day concluded with the rock wall climbing challenge.

4-H will host summer activities. On July 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cattleman’s Association Ag Center, 4-H hosts an activity called Play On where students will learn the science of sound and basics of music. This activity is open to all fourth through sixth grade students and the cost is $10. Lunch will be provided.

July 13 through 17 at the Ag Center will be Up Camp, a day camp for high school students. Students will have the opportunity to learn about healthy dating relationships, etiquette and how to dress for success. The camp will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and lunch will be provided. Cost is $45. To register for an event or for more information on upcoming 4-H activities, please contact the Troup County Extension Office.
