A man said a woman hit him in the head with a beer bottle Monday evening on Carver Street, but she claimed it was in self defense after the man pulled out a knife.

The man called police and told a responding officer that he and the woman were on Carver Street when she asked him for money. He refused and she hit him in the head with a beer bottle, he claimed. He refused treatment from responding medics.

When the officer said he was going to speak with the woman, he reported that the man became irate and mentioned that “he didn’t have a knife,” according to a report. He then told the officer that the woman would claim he pulled a knife on her, but he denied it happened.

When the officer spoke to the woman, she allegedly said that the pair were arguing over alcohol when he started calling her names and she slapped him in the face. The man then pulled out a pocket knife and threatened to stab her, she claimed.

The woman’s arm was in a sling, and she had a beer bottle in her free arm, she told police, which hit the man as she swung her arm to get him away. He then left.

A witness said the man pulled out the knife and threatened the woman, but he thought they were “just joking around,” according to the report.

Warrant procedures were explained to the pair on simple battery for the man allegedly being struck by the beer bottle and simple assault for the woman allegedly being threatened with a knife.
