If you are a true, Southern, Troup County citizen who cares and cherishes the history of our great city and county, a must read book is Fuller E. Callaway’s biography “Fuller E. Callaway, Portrait of a New South Citizen,” written by Buckner F. Milton Jr. and Carol Wilcox Milton.

It is a book about an extraordinary man who truly made a difference not only in LaGrange and Troup County, but also to the slow recovering South after the Civil War. Not to mention the excellent research and recalls of the man as a boy through his entire life.

It’s a book that will intrigue and marvel at one’s own thoughts of how one man can make such an impact on his own life, the county, the citizens of the South, the country and even the world. I could go on, but I just want to share my enthusiasm of a great read with the citizens of LaGrange.

I highly recommend you read this book yourself, and I’m sure you will be as intrigued as I. My greatest disappointment about the book was after turning to page 265 — there were no more pages to read.

Thanks to the authors and all who commissioned this extraordinary biography of a truly great man after all he was one us. A Southerner who used his God-given talents and opportunities to truly make a difference.
