LaGrange police said a “reasonable amount of force” was used to apprehend a wanted man who refused to come out from underneath a van.

Officers stated they sighted the man walking on Heard Street about 11:10 p.m. Thursday.

Police said warrants for the man’s arrest on charges of shoplifting and criminal trespass had been signed Wednesday.

According to officers, as they approached the man and advised him of the arrest warrants, he fled toward Hamilton Road and Keyes Street.

A few minutes later, officers found the suspect hiding under a van behind the Big 4 Corners Salon building.

Police stated they were able to remove him from under the van using “a reasonable amount of force,” according to the police report.

The man was taken to the Troup County Jail and charged with obstruction.

Forgery

LaGrange police are investigating a man who tried to pass a fraudulent check from a LaGrange business.

Employees at the Commercial Bank and Trust at 200 N. Greenwood St. said a man came into the building about 3 p.m. Wednesday with the $1,276.60 check supposedly from the business.

An employee told police she noticed the check number was out of sequence and went to call the owner of the company. The man in the bank eventually became agitated, grabbed the check and left.

An representative of the defrauded company later confirmed to the bank the check was fraudulent.

Police were investigating.
