Man accidentally shoots self in hand
One man was injured about 1:45 a.m. Friday when he grabbed his gun as he was getting out of his car and accidentally shot himself in the hand.
LaGrange police said the incident happened on the driveway of the man’s home in the 100 block of Bell Street. The victim told officers he grabbed the .40-caliber pistol from the seat of his car when the weapon went off.
He told officers he did not think there was a round in the chamber.
Police said the bullet also struck the car door, where it remained.
The victim was taken to West Georgia Medical Center for treatment, police stated.
One woman was arrested and LaGrange police were searching for two more possible suspects in a incident involving forging a fake form for prescription medication.
Officers said the arrested Ashley Barton, 19, whose address was unavailable, as she was trying to leave the Walgreens at 115 Vernon St. just before 3 p.m. Thursday.
An employee at Walgreens told police that Barton approached the pharmacy counter and handed an employee a signed doctor’s prescription for “Promethazine w/cod 6.25-10mg.”
The woman stated she knew the prescription form was a fake because a similar incident happened last week and employees discovered the address on the form did not exist.
According to police, Barton refused to answer any of their questions.
When officers ran her name through a statewide database, they realized she had a warrant out for her arrest in Clayton County.
Barton was charged with first- and second-degree forgery and criminal attempt to possess a schedule IV narcotic.
Police said she was seen arriving at the Walgreens with two males in a silver Mazda sedan with a Georgia plate PVJ9200.
Officers searched for the vehicle, but did not locate it.
Anyone with information on this incident was asked to call the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
