Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office said they recently charged a prisoner at the Troup County Correctional Institute at 2508 Hamilton Road with aggravated battery after he allegedly attacked another prisoner.

Sheriff’s officials said Matthew T. Means, 24, punched and kicked the other man, who has not been identified. The victim sustained multiple facial fractures from the beating.

Officials said Means claims to be a member of the Ghost Faced Gangsters, a criminal street gang.

Investigators stated the assault could be connected to gang activity.

Troup County Correctional Institute officials asked the sheriff’s office to conduct an investigation into the assault.

Meanwhile, Means was booked into the Troup County Jail and then transferred to another state prison.

Items stolen from truck

A man reported to LaGrange police about 9 p.m. Tuesday someone broke into his truck while it was parked at Banzai Japanese Steakhouse at 1510 Lafayette Parkway. He told police two black book bags valued at about $115, an iPad valued at about $500 and a Springfield Armory XD .40-caliber pistol valued at $650 were taken.

While officers were taking the man’s report, the victim received a phone call from a truck driver who had found one of his bags in the parking lot of the Interstate 85 Welcome Center in West Point. The man’s business card was inside the bag, but police said all the other items were gone.

Police were investigating.
