Letter: E-SPLOST is the most unfair tax

Dear editor,
Far from being the so-called “fairest tax of all,” the E-SPLOST is the most unfair, for the simple reason it is the most regressive and hurts those who can least afford it; namely senior citizens struggling to eke out a living on a meager Social Security of SSI check and those low-income people who have to watch every penny just to survive.
And to add insult to injury, I wonder how many people realize that the county school superintendent is paid more than the governor of Georgia, and that does not include his many additional perks.
Also, why should senior citizens have to pay ad valorem tax on their homestead when they have no children in school and many have never had any? They should be exempt, or at least their property assessments should be frozen to prevent “back door” tax increases.
Tommy Callaway is exactly right!
Vote no on the E-SPLOST and show them you care.
