Man caught drinking beer while driving

One man was arrested after a LaGrange police officer spotted him drinking a Bud Light beer while driving his car on Lafayette Parkway near Morgan Street just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

When officers pulled the man over, they smelled alcohol and asked him where he placed the beer, according to the report.

The driver admitted it was between the driver and passenger seat, police said. Officers located the beer, plus a clear plastic baggie that contained suspected marijuana in the man’s front pocket.

The man failed a field sobriety test and a breath test showed a 0.171 blood alcohol content, police stated.

He was taken to the Troup County Jail and charged with two counts of DUI less safe, possession of marijuana and failure to maintain lane, all misdemeanors.

Home damaged

A man returned to his home in the 1400 block of Juniper Street just after 8 p.m. Wednesday to find someone broke in and damaged parts of the residence.

The man showed LaGrange police officers where someone had damaged the walls of the home, shattered windows and ripped cabinets off the wall, according to the report.

The homeowner told officers he had not been inside the house for more than a week.

Police are investigating.

Burglary

One homeowner returned to his residence in the 200 block of Thomas Street about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and discovered someone broke in and took several items.

The man found a large cinder block had been thrown through one of the windows, according to the police report.

An HP laptop computer and a Magnavox entertainment system were missing from the home, the victim stated.

The items were valued around $600.
