Man arrested for allegedly driving on sidewalk, DUI

Public Safety Reports

A driver who reportedly tried to flee from LaGrange police officers after hitting another car on Ridley Avenue at Haralson Street was taken into custody just a few blocks away.

The man was in a Ford F250 truck and leaving the downtown Christmas Parade when he allegedly struck the other car, a report stated.

The other motorist flagged down a LaGrange police officer walking on foot, according to the report.

But as she did, the man in the F250 reportedly jumped the curb on Ridley Avenue, drove down the sidewalk on Battle Street barely missing dozens of pedestrians walking in the area and clipped a barricade, the report stated.

The LaGrange police officer reportedly took off running across the parking lot of City Hall, down the stairway of police department where he jumped into a patrol car, a report said.

The officer found the truck stuck in traffic on Morgan Street, asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and promptly arrested him, according to the report.

The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the man’s breath. The driver allegedly failed a field sobriety test and blew a .146 in the Breathalyzer, the report stated.

The man was arrested and charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and DUI.

No one was hurt during the incident.
