Man tries to assault woman in laundromat

One man is behind bars for attempting to rob and assault a 67-year-old woman inside the Lynx Coin Laundry at 408 Daniel Street about 7:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Rafael Burks, 30, was arrested by investigators with the LaGrange Police Department a short time later.

Burks was charged with criminal attempt armed robbery, criminal attempt aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, stated LPD officials.

The victim told investigators the man (later identified as Burks) walked into the laundromat, took out a gun and demanded money.

The victim allegedly told Burks she had no money, according to investigators.

Burks then attempted to force the 67-year-old woman to perform a sexual act on him, the report stated.

The victim told LPD investigators Burks stopped when he realized there were surveillance cameras in the store.

Armed robbery

Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department are searching for a man involved in an alleged armed robbery in the 500 block of Revis Street about 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Police issued arrest warrants for Dwon Lamar Harris, 35, of LaGrange.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, told investigators he was walking with his 4-year-old daughter when Harris approached him.

The man said Harris pointed a silver handgun at him, demanded money, searched the victim’s pockets and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the police report.

Harris then fled the area on foot, the report stated.

Investigators charged Harris with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.
