Public Safety Reports

Detectives with the LaGrange Police Department are investigating the death of a dog that was discovered tied to a tree behind a home in the first block of Curran Avenue.

The dog’s owners initially called officers with the LaGrange – Troup County Animal Control and claimed a large coyote killed their pet just 30 minutes’ prior by ripping out its throat, the report stated.

Officers found the dog covered in blood with a tether knotted around its neck, according to the report.

But officers discovered the animal did not have any puncture wounds and had been dead for more than 30 minutes, the report stated.

Officers also noted they could not get their fingers between the tether and the neck of the dog.

The state of the dog did not line up with the owners’ statement to Animal Control Officers, the report said.

Officers reportedly called in detectives with LPD’s Criminal Investigation Section.

The owners’ of the dog were cited for violating the city’s tethering ordinance.

It was not known as of press time on Thursday if the couple would face additional charges in regards to the dog’s death.
