Nobody injured in two house fires Friday evening

A structure fire occurred at the 1100 block of Second Avenue Friday around 7:30 a.m., according to a LaGrange Fire Department press release. The house was vacant at the time and no injuries were reported. Firefighters were unable to enter the house because of the extreme heat and fire conditions, according to Lt. Chris Taylor. The fire was under control at 9:08 a.m. and firefighters did not find anyone inside the structure. Taylor said the structure was a total loss and the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature. The fire is currently under investigation by the LaGrange Fire and Police investigators.

A second structure fire occurred at the 200 block of Niles Street Friday around 7:20 p.m., according to a LaGrange Fire Department press release. No one was home at the time of the fire except for a dog, who was rescued without injury. According to the press release, firefighters put the fire uncontrolled by 8:08 p.m. The cause of the fire was electrical in nature with no definite cause pinpointed and was determined not an arson, according to a LaGrange Police Department report.

Pistol found outside Lafayette Garden Inn

A Davis Industries .32 semi-automatic pistol was allegedly found lying behind a dumpster at the Lafayette Garden Inn Friday around 2 p.m. The hotel’s property manager told police he was looking around the dumpster when he found the gun. According to the police report, an officer had 911 run the serial number of the gun and it came back not on file.

More than $1,500 worth of technology stolen from vehicle

An iPad Mini and a Dell laptop were stolen from a locked vehicle at the Longhorn Steakhouse parking lot on Lafayette Parkway Saturday between 5:15 p.m. and 6:50 p.m. According to the police report, an officer noticed the driver’s door handle was consistent with being punched. The total value of the items taken is $1,700.
