John Peyson Drinkard, III of LaGrange, GA died peacefully on Oct. 12 at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife, Betty Nickles Drinkard, and two daughters, Anne Hayes Pearce (Lee) of Signal Mountain, Tennessee and Whitney Warlick (Faulkner) of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Peyson Montgomery Pearce, Mary Evelyn Pearce, Hayes Faulkner Warlick and Carter Nickles Warlick.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Peyson Drinkard, Jr. and Rebecca Fleming Drinkard, and a brother, James Thomas Drinkard, all of Lincolnton, GA. He was born in Royston, GA and spent his formative years in Washington, GA and Lincolnton, GA. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy where he was elected to Who’s Who in America’s Colleges and Universities. In 1967, John married Betty Carol Nickles of LaGrange. He spent many years as owner/pharmacist at Clary’s Drug Store in Savannah’s historic district, and in recent years worked professionally as a retail and hospital pharmacist. John will be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor, his love for his family, and his talents as a pianist, painter, and writer.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.
