The Troup County Board of Education approved a naming of facilities policy at Thursday night’s meeting, meaning community members can now submit names for the new elementary school.

The board also set up a deadline of Jan. 12, 2018 for any submissions.

Anyone who wants to propose a name for the school must submit their suggestion in writing to the Superintendent Cole Pugh by filling out the naming of facilities request form.

The policy says that all name suggestions will receive fair and equitable consideration, and that the board will make the final decision. The name will be announced prior to the opening of the new facility.

“It just so happens we have a new facility to name,” joked board member Joe Franklin, just before the vote passed unanimously.

A stake in the ground ceremony was held at the school’s location on South Davis Road on Thursday. The school, which will replace Whitesville Road Elementary School, is expected to open in August 2018.

Anyone who wants to suggest a name for consideration can do so by downloading the naming of facilities form from www.troup.org.
