Last week, the Troup High School Student Council hosted the Mr. and Miss Troup High school competition at the Troup County Performing Arts Auditorium.

THS clubs, organizations and sports teams are invited to select male and female candidates whom exhibit high academic standards, leadership, and community involvement. Preliminary judging consists of contestants preparing a one-page application to be scored by off-site adjudicators for a maximum of 60 points. There was also an interview before a panel of three judges who score students based on appearance, professionalism, communication skills, personality, intellect and accomplishments for another possible 60 points.

On the night of the competition, each contestant presents a self-introduction including their accomplishments, interests and future. This introduction is worth up to 60 points. Finally, students respond spontaneously to an on-stage question for a possible 30 points.
