The Roman army will conquer the Biblical History Center May 5. The center will hold its annual Roman Army Day with reenactors from Legio XI Claudia Pia Fidelis.

“They will come in, and they will be performing reenactments throughout the day,” said Morgan Cantrell, a curator for the center. “We will have breadmaking. We’ll have arts and crafts, weaving, markets, all kinds of stuff for families to come interact with as well as Romans.”

The Biblical History Center has historically accurate archaeological replicas in addition to artifacts from Israel to show visitors what it would have been like living in biblical times.

In addition to activities, there will also be an ancient costume contest for children. The Romans will pick winners from each age category, Cantrell said.

“They can be Egyptians. They can be Romans. They can be Israelites, Greeks, whatever they want to be,” Cantrell said. “So they can wear togas.”

The event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and visitors can attend at any time. Tickets are $20 for adults ages 13 and up and $15 for children ages 6 to 12.

“It is a wonderful family activity for families of all sizes, shapes and ages to come and engage with the ancient world and to talk to Romans, which is not something people get to do every day,” Cantrell said. “This is also an opportunity to see our garden come to life and to fully submerge yourself in the ancient biblical world.”
