A WellStar West Georgia Medical Center cardiologist was taken to Midtown Medical in Columbus after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle on Whitesville Road Thursday.
According to LaGrange Police Department Lt. Mark Kostial, officers were called to the scene after Angampally Rajeev, 49, was struck by a Mitsubishi Mirage on the 1700 block of Whitesville Road around 6:15 a.m.
“By all accounts, the gentleman riding the bicycle is in the southbound lane of travel where he’s legally permitted to be,” Kostial said. “A vehicle traveling behind him does not observe the bicyclist in a timely manner, even though the bicycle is complying with established law by having a front and rear light activated, but as soon as the driver of the at-fault vehicle observes the bicyclist, he starts blowing his horn, but the impact occurs anyway.”
According to Kostial, Rajeev’s condition is unkown at this time, but he had facial injuries and abrasions to his arms and legs. The vehicle’s driver, Larry Davis, was cited for following too closely, Kostial said.
