Man airlifted after leading GSP, Harris County deputies on chase

A 27-year-old man was airlifted to a Columbus hospital after being ejected from a stolen vehicle Monday on Interstate 185 at mile marker 42, according to law enforcement reports.

According to Georgia State Patrol, the man was being persued by Harris County Deputies for stealing a WOW! cable truck and was traveling north near the Troup County line. Columbus Police Department Sgt. Thomas Hill identified the driver as Brandon Walker.

According to Hill, a WOW! employee was loading the truck at the company’s headquarters to get it ready at the when Walker jumped in the vehicle and took off. Columbus police responded to the scene on the 6000 block of Knology Way at 1:21 p.m.

The truck was forcing other vehicles off the roadway and almost struck several other cars, according to GSP. A trooper attempted to use stop sticks at mile marker 40, but was unsuccessful, according the GSP incident report.

A trooper performed a pursuit intervention technique maneuver, and the truck rotated into the guardrail and overturned. Walker was ejected from the truck.

Walker is currently in the ICU and is on a ventilator, according to the crash report. According to Hill, the Columbus PD has warrants on hold for Walker.
