Man arrested for allegedly growing pot near park

A LaGrange man was arrested after allegedly growing six marijuana plants near Calumet Park Wednesday. According to Troup County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Stewart Smith, Lafrederick Brooks, 40, was arrested after officers from the narcotics division discovered the plants growing near the park, which is deemed a “drug free recreation zone.”

“They were doing a coordination with the governor’s drug task force,” Smith said. “They were doing drug reconnaissance with helicopters on that day, and they noticed the plants growing in the yard.”

According to Troup County Jail arrest/release reports, Brooks was charged with controlled substances in, on or near schools and violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act marijuana manufacturing. His bond is $5,000.
