A 7-year-old girl was airlifted to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta Thursday after being hit by a car on Lafayette Parkway. According to LaGrange Police Department Lt. Mark Kostial, the child suffered a fracture to her femur after attempting to cross the street with her mother in front of Edelson’s Army Store.
“There’re two crosswalks between Lafayette Square and Morgan Street, and they didn’t use either one of them,” Kostial said. “As they’re walking across the roadway, the furthest east bound lane of travel was stopped, so as the child walked in front of one vehicle, a driver in the second lane of travel did not observe the child until the very last minute.”
Police, fire and EMS responded around 2:55 p.m., Kostial said.
No one has been cited for the incident, according to Kostial.
“They were attempting to cross this roadway 132 feet west of the nearest crosswalk,” Kostial said. “If they were going to cross that roadway as you would cross any roadway, pedestrians need to cross at a crosswalk, and that’s really why the collision occurred.”
