A 14-year-old boy was arrested after shooting an adult with a stolen gun Monday afternoon. According to Troup County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Stewart Smith, the minor was in a vehicle near Gordon Street in LaGrange with his mother and an adult male when the two adults began arguing.
“The 14-year-old started yelling at the male and basically said ‘you’re not going to talk to my mom that way,’” Smith said.
“And he pulled out a handgun and shot the male in the abdomen.”
Smith said the man was not seriously injured and was treated at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.
The 14-year-old was charged with aggravated assault, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime and possession of a handgun by a person under 18, according to Smith.
It is unclear how the minor ended up in possession of the gun.
