Man arrested on amphetamine possession, theft charges

A man was arrested for amphetamine possession and robbery by snatch Friday around 1 a.m. after stealing a phone near South Greenwood Street.

According to a LaGrange Police Department report, the victim told police he was walking by when he saw Deandrez Green, 19, and three other men attempting to break into a drink machine at Piggly Wiggly on South Greenwood Street. The victim said he started speed walking on South Greenwood Street toward Cherry Street when Green grabbed his bicycle and ran up behind him.

The victim told police that Green snatched his phone out of his left hand and started running with the bicycle at his side toward Cherry Street.

The victim valued his phone at $250.

After speaking with the victim, an officer was driving him home when he recognized Green riding a bicycle on Webster Street, according to the police report.

The officer knew Green had a warrant through the LPD for theft by receiving, according to the police report, and contacted him.

After searching Green’s person, the officer saw him drop a glass smoking pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue on it. The officer soon retrieved the pipe, according to the police report.

While searching for Green’s bike, the officer also found a phone that matched the one the victim said was stolen, according to the police report.

According to Troup County Webjail, Green is charged with strong arm robbery, amphetamine possession and theft by receiving.
