Springwood School launched Springwood Online, a high school diploma program for domestic and international students online, according to a press release. 

“We believe that online learning is a key component to future educational endeavors,” Springwood Headmaster Rick Johnson said. “Springwood Online will be available to domestic students who might need an alternative to the traditional ‘one size fits all’ school environment, as well as to international students. Springwood Online allows for personalized learning and is fully accredited.” 

“One of the many benefits of online learning includes flexibility,” Online Administrator Dr. Karen Kelley said.

Springwood Online is accessible 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world. Students can complete class work on the days and the times convenient to them. The self-paced nature of the program allows students to spend as much time as needed mastering concepts they find difficult. 

Administrators hope the online courses will provide ways for students to accelerate taking Advanced Placement classes for potential college credit. Springwood Online also offers an avenue for students to get back on track if they have previously fallen behind in the traditional school setting.

“Another benefit of online learning is that it provides students with practical experiences that will help prepare them for college,” Kelley said. “Many college classes are offered fully online or include online class discussion boards and assignment submission. Having experience with these formats will better prepare our students to be successful.”

“International students currently makeup approximately 20 percent of our student body in grades nine through 12,” said Ann Hixon, the director of the international student program at Springwood. “Springwood Online will be a natural partner to Springwood International as an option for students with difficulties obtaining a student visa or for families who want a U.S. diploma for their child, but want to keep them at home in their own country during high school.”
